A Few Words On Glass Quality And Why It Matters

When deciding what bong to buy you have a number of options, but it really comes down to two things:

do you want something inexpensive that will get the job done, but will crap out on you after a year or so, or do you want something that’s perhaps a little more than you were willing to spend, but will last you for many years.

Folks, glass quality matters, and it matters a lot.

Glass quality is the only difference between you replacing a cheap glass bong every year and making an investment into your glass.

Sure, when you’re first starting out glass quality may not matter so much.

Once you really get into smoking weed, you’ll not only find that smoking out of high quality glass is not only more enjoyable, but you’ll feel a sense of pride when you have a nice piece to share with friends.

So, why does glass quality matter so much, and how can you tell if the piece you’re using is high quality or not?

What is Low Quality Glass?

Lower quality glass is pretty easy to tell. First off, you can always tell by the price.

If you’re purchasing a glass bong for under 20 dollars, chances are pretty high that it’s made of lower quality glass from China.

That’s not what you want. You can usually tell by looking at a piece whether it is made from this type of glass. Is the glass cloudy?

That’s a for sure sign that you have low quality glass.

Is the glass not a uniform thickness, that is, is it thick in some places and thinner in others? You definitely have low quality glass.

Okay, How do I Tell if I Have High Quality Glass?

There are a number of ways to tell if you’re purchasing, or have purchased high quality glass.

Brand Name

First and foremost, high quality glass will have a brand name. Roor, Ehle, G-Spot, Blaze Glass, etc., are all good examples of high quality glass brands.

If you’re buying a Roor, you know that you’re buying a quality piece.

Your wallet will definitely know, but that’s the price you pay for quality.

A Roor will cost you a few hundred dollars, but those things are made to last. 

I’ve had mine for over a year and it’s still like new. I’ll probably be able to pass it on to next of kin in several decades.

Borosilicate Glass

The best quality pieces are made from borosilicate glass. It’s a sturdier type of glass made from silica and boron trioxide.

This makes it less susceptible to the types of cracks that form from rapid temperature changes due to smoking.

Borosilicate glass is made to last, but it’s important to remember that it’s still glass and it’s not indestructible!

Price

Hate to break it to you, but this is one of those cases where quality comes with a price tag.

If you want high quality glass you have to be prepared to spend a little bit more.

The thing is that you’ll save money in the long run when you have a piece that lasts you years and years (as long as you’re careful) as opposed to buying a new cheap piece and new parts.
